"FRANK WILSON SUFFIELD retained a close connection with the Birmingham district throughout his career. He served a three years pupilage under the late Mr. C. A. Smith, Birmingham, on the conclusion of which, in 1892, he was for a brief period in the drawing office of the Star Tube Company, Ltd.
From 1892 to 1896 he was first an improver in the works of Messrs. S. Fisher and Company, Ltd., makers of sugar refinery machinery, and later was employed by them as a fitter. He then joined Messrs. Thomas Piggott, and Company, Ltd., gas and general engineers, for whom he was engaged as assistant draughtsman in the estimating department. Subsequently he went into practice on his own account as a consulting engineer, and for over thirty years was closely concerned with the design and layout of factories, as well as heating schemes and the installation of machinery. Mr. Suffield's long association with the Institution dated back to 1894 when he was elected a Graduate. He was transferred to Associate Membership three years later. His death in his seventy-ninth year occurred on 25th November 1949."
