Alderman Rose, who was 79, was chairman of Central Garage, Ltd., Bradford and Leeds. He was well known in Bradford sporting circles, and was chairman and president of Bradford City AFC. He was also president of the Yorkshire Walking Association, the Bradford and County Walking Association, and a past president of the English Road-Walking Association. Alderman Rose was a prominent Freemason.
