Marcus Samuel (1853-1927) Principal in the foundation of the Shell Transport and Trading Co with his brother Samuel Samuel
1853 5th November. Born in Whitechapel, London.
1897 The Samuel brothers renamed their shipping company the Shell Transport and Trading Company, which was incorporated as a limited company to work the mineral oil-producing, refining, transporting and distributing properties formerly belonging to M. Samuel and Co. and their associates.
1898 Knighted as a reward for his services in connection with the salvage of HMS Victoria.
1903 Created Baronet when he was Lord Mayor of London.
1910 Biographical information and image at Automotor Journal 19100702
1921 Made Baron.
1925 Became Viscount Bearsted of Maidstone.
1927 17 January. Died the day after his wife.[1][2]
