The water-powered mill, for rolling wrought iron bar into flat strips and slitting it, was established in the first half of the 18thC by Thomas Titley (d.1753), a Quaker, who owned three other slitting mills. These passed to his son, Abraham Titley. After he died in 1772 the mill appears to have passed to Walter Wilson. Wilson died in 1802, by which time the slitting mill was probably out of use.
