1880 'OPENING OF THE GILWERN TIN WORKS, CWMTWRCH. <br>The above works were opened on Wednesday last, amid great rejoicing and enthusiasm. The engine (which was started by Mr Evans, the sec- retary) is a vertical one, 4 feet stroke, 35 feet[!] diameter, and direct acting, and was supplied by the firm of [[R. Nevill and Co|Mr Nevill]], Llanelly, and works most satisfactorily. The erection of the engine has been carried out under the supervision of Mr Richards, foreman in the employ of Mr Nevill; Mr David Howells, of Ystalyfera, being the contractor. After the start the company provided refreshments for all engaged at the works, and the chair having been taken by Rev. Charles Williams, who delivered an address upon "Masters and workmen," the usual toasts of "The Company," "Mr R. Nevill," "The Contractor," "The Erector," "Manager," and "Secretary" were given with gusto.
