c.1796 Born, son of Alexander Baird and his wife Jean Moffat
1816 Took on the management of the coalfield at Rochsolloch (New Monkland) that his father had leased; his brother Alexander was responsible for sales.
1830 With his brothers formed William Baird and Co to own and operate the business his father had built up.
1841-6 Was the representative in Parliament of the Falkirk Burghs.
1864 Died in Edinburgh
