1969 Formed by GEC to manage the activities of Marconi-Elliott Microelectronics and AEI Semiconductors. Dr John Shields, MD of AEI Semiconductors, would manage the new unit[1]
1980 Fairchild pulled out of its proposed JV with GEC to build a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Cheshire. GEC Semiconductors was producing chips for the Post Office's push button phones and for the Prestel system.[2]
1980 GEC reorganised its 3 business units working on microelectronics, one of which was GEC Semiconductors. All 3 were incorporated in the new business Marconi Electronic Devices
