Joseph 'Jack' Reginald Haswell (1882-1958)
1882 March 10th. Born in Rugby the only son of Joseph Haswell, farmer and grocer.
1904 Married in Stoneleigh to Lucy Ann Hollick and they had three children, Rita, Vivian and Pat
The 1910 Valuer’s Notes record Jack Haswell owning 265 acres of arable land and grassland in Crick Parish while he actively farmed 197 acres. He lived at Well Hill Farmhouse described in the Valuer’s Notes as “supposed the best farm in the parish, very good house”. He also owned three other substantial houses and a butchers shop, all in the centre of Crick village.
Between 1910, and probably earlier, and up to 1917 he recorded his home as Crick. During the early part of this time, up to WWI, he actively pursued his of hobby of motorcycling, usually riding his 3.5 hp. Triumph.
1911 Living at Crick near Rugby: Joseph Reginald Haswell (age 29 born Rugby), Grazier - Employer. With his wife Lucy Ann and their three children. Three servants.[1]
1912 Second place in the Isle of Man TT race (senior class) on a Triumph.
WWI Enlisted as a dispatch rider in what in 1915 became the RFC and served in France.
1921 Moved to Priory Terrace in Leamington Spa where he remained the rest of his life.
1938 Death of his wife Lucy Ann
1939 Married Phylis?
1958 December 22nd. Died in Leamington Spa and buried in Clifton Road Cemetery, Rugby
