Served apprenticeship with [[Silvertown Co]]., London and Liverpool. Afterwards Erection Engineer with [[Dick Kerr and Co]]. On the electrical staff of the [[Metropolitan Railway]], London. In 1907 joined the staff of [[Harland and Wolff]], Shipbuilders and Engineers, Belfast, and was engaged on some of the largest electrical installations in the shipping world. In 1911 took up Mining Electrical work. Is at present Engineer-in-Chief to several large groups of collieries in Lancashire. President. of the Mining Electrical Engineers for Lancashire, Cheshire and Staffordshire, 1917 and 1918.
