1806 August 13th. Born in Pilling, Lancs., the son of Thomas Bouker Preston (1768-1821) and his wife Mary Proctor (1782-1816)

One of the most useful and unostentatious of our public men has passed away. Mr. William Preston, of Rock House, West Derby, and Ellel Grange Lancaster, died on Saturday evening, about half-past nine o'clock. Deceased was a native of Pilling, near Lancaster, and nephew of the late Mr. Robert Preston, who was the founder of the old and well-known firm of Robert Preston and Co., the eminent distillers, to which business he succeeded and continued to be the head.
Mr. Preston left home early in life, and entered in this town into the service of his uncles, who, besides being engaged with their distillery in Vauxhall-road, were deeply interested in Fawcett, Preston, and Co.'s extensive foundry in York-street.........[more regarding his political and private life]
