1902 Willis Carrier introduced the first modern air conditioning system at the Sackett and Wilhelms printing plant in Brooklyn, New York.
1903 Buffalo Forge Company sold Carrier’s “Apparatus for Treating Air” to the Chronicle Cotton Mills of Belmont, North Carolina, the first industrial central station humidifying system. The innovation rapidly spread through the textile industry
1915 Willis Carrier and 6 fellow engineers from Buffalo Forge Company launched Carrier Engineering Corporation as an independent entity.
1918 The company opened a research laboratory in Newark, New Jersey.
Post-WWI The technology rapidly improved and was applied in a wider range of buildings
1921 Carrier Engineering Co was set up in Britain
1936 Shareholding in the British company was sold when the company went public but Carrier's technology continued to be licenced to the British company.
1979 Acquired by United Technologies Corporation.
2020 Spun out of United Technologies
