1887 Skanska Cementgjuteriet was formed by Rudolf Fredrik Berg in Malmo in Southern Sweden

The construction company expanded across Sweden.

1897 First contract outside Sweden was for hollow concrete blocks for telephone cables in the UK.

1954 First investments in Commercial Property Development

1956 First overseas construction project in modern times built silos in Iraq.

1960–2000 Power plants, irrigation plants, infrastructure, schools and hospitals are constructed in several developing countries such as Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Colombia, Panama and Peru.

1964 Sales exceed SEK 1 billion for the first time.

1965 AB Skanska Cementgjuteriet is registered on the A list of the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

1965 The Abu Simbel temple in Egypt relocated

1971–1978 The company’s first projects in the U.S.A.: subway systems in New York and Washington D.C.

1984 Name change to Skanska.

2000 Oresund Bridge officially opened.

2000 The Skanska Europe AB subsidiary of Skanska AB acquired the construction businesses of Kvaerner including Cementation

2006 Acquired utilities business McNicholas which becomes part of the UK business.

2007–2014 Renovation of UN headquarters.

2010 Skanska UK awarded first Crossrail project at Royal Oak Portal. Skanska has worked on seven Crossrail projects to date, including Paddington and Bond Street stations, helping to build the new railway across London.

2013 Acquired Atkins Highways Services, which becomes part of Skanska UK.

2015 Skanska UK’s Bentley Works facilities in Doncaster redeveloped.
