1821 Act of Parliament obtained
1826 Opened for traffic.
1836 Opening of the Shipston branch
c1853 The line was leased by the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway who spent much money to allow the line to carry ordinary railway vehicles. Connected at Moreton-in-Marsh with the OWW line. Passenger services were run on a seasonal basis between 1853 and 1859.
The tramway's bridge across the River Avon in Stratford remains in use by pedestrians, and is known as the Tramway Bridge.
A much-restored horse-drawn wagon is on display near the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-on-Avon. See photo.
