Captain Theophilus Alexander Blakely (1827-1868)
1827 January 7th. Born in Sligo, Ireland, the son of the Very Reverend Theophilus Alexander and his second wife, Mary William Blakely.
Educated at the Royal Military College, Woolwich
1844 June 14th. Commissioned from Gentleman Cadet to Second Lieutenant in the Royal Regiment of Artillery
1846 April 2nd. Promoted to First Lieutenant
1852 April 1st. Promoted to be Second Captain of Artillery
1856 December 31st. Married Harriette Catherine Tonge, widow of Captain John Henry Tonge - no children
Moved to 34 Montpelier Square, Brompton, London
1863 Founded Blakely Ordnance Co

1866 Captain Blakely, well known Ordnance Inventor and Manufacturer was defendant in an action brought by John Hughes, C.E., of Millwall Ironworks and C. W. Lancaster, the noted Gun Maker of Bond Street and the inventor of the Lancaster or elliptical-bored ordnance, concerning methods of construction of ordnance.[1]
1868 May 4th. Died at Chorrillos, Peru of yellow fever
