Pirie, Appleton and Co was probably formed by a merger between the largest envelope maker in Scotland, Alexander Pirie and Sons with the largest in England, Fenner and Appleton of London.

1947 Pirie, Appleton and Co manufactured registered postal envelopes, stationery and furniture from paper, at their premises located at 22 South College Street, Aberdeen.
The envelope manufacturing was later moved to new premises at Dyce.
