With his daughter Alice Smith Davey (age 45 born Stoke canon), Housekeeper (single); son Ernest James Davey (age 38 born Stoke Canon), Cellar man, Hotel; and son Leonard Samuel Davey (age 20 born Stoke Canon), Railway Clerk. 1912 November. Died. 'STOKE CANON. Amid many manifestations of regret the funeral took place, in the village churchyard, of the late Mr. Samuel Davey, who for many years was stationmaster here. The large number of mourners present bore testimony to the high esteem in which was held by a large circle of friends. Deceased retired from his railway post about five years ago. He became the landlord, of the Turk's Head Hotel, Exeter, and was licensee at the time of his death. His health for some months had occasioned anxiety, and passed away Thursday last at the residence of his son-in-law in New North-road. Deceased was a Freemason, having been initiated in 1893, and Worshipful Master of the "Semper Fidelis" Lodge in 1908.'<ref>Exeter and Plymouth Gazette - Friday 29 November 1912</ref>
