Sir (Herbert) Raymond Dennis (1878-1939) of Dennis Brothers
Raymond Dennis and his brother, John were brought up in Huntshaw, near Barnstaple in Devon.
John moved to Guildford where he started making bicycles in his spare time. These sold at a profit and in 1895 he set up his own business, the Universal Athletic Stores in Guildford High Street, selling bicycles and other sports goods. Here he was joined by Raymond and the enterprise expanded. Bicycle manufacturing continued and other products were made were tricycles and quadricycles.[1]
1901 Dennis Brothers became a private limited company.
1939 Obituary[2] Died aged 60 years. Born 1878, the forth son of W. H. Dennis of Huntshaw, Devon. K.B.E in 1920. In 1928 married Sybil Margaret Llewellyn.
