1777 Sale Notice: 'To be LET or SOLD by private Contract, at Kendal in Westmorland, A Patent ENGINE for cutting Horn Combs, together with the unexpired Term in the Patent; and several Dozens of Saw Plates.
It goes by Water, cuts a Variety of Sorts much truer than by the Hand, and in so expeditious a Manner that twelve Dozens may be cut in an Hour by one Person ; the Workmanship is particularly strong and elegant, and so peculiarly adjusted that its Motion is rematkably free and good.
Also to be disposed of, Two Screws, one a Single Thread, and the other three Threads, calculated for stamping or cutting open Work, Fenders, Escutcheons, &c. or for raising Impressions on any Kind of Metal, where great Force or Power is required.-For Patticulars apply to Harrison, Fell, and Co. at Kendal aforesaid, where the Engines may be viewed.'[1]
