1853 Designed the [[Arpley Bridge, Warrington]] to carry the [[Warrington and Stockport Railway]] line over the river Mersey at Warrington.
He was the Engineer during construction of the [[Warrington and Stockport Railway]] in the early 1850s.

1797 Born in Wath, Yorks., son of Thomas Lister, and presumably brother of Thomas Lister, contractor.

1851 John Lister 54, engineer, and Henry Lister 16, lived in the house of John's brother in law, James Thorpe 35, farmer and innkeeper, in Wath, Rotherham with Martha Thorpe 30, John Thorpe 12, Hannah Thorpe 9, and baby of 5 days[1]

He was the Engineer during construction of the Warrington and Stockport Railway in the early 1850s.
