In 1976 Payter lost £74,000 but the greater part was incurred at the firm's Bilston Works in the West Midlands which is being closed. The business carried in Tipton Staffordshire is complementary to that of Braby’s Bristol works which is undergoing modernisation and whose range of products has been broadened.
