1878 '[[Thomas Catchpool| Mr. Thos. Catchpool]], head of the engineering firm, "[[Catchpool, Stannard, and Stanford]]," died on May 4th. Failing health for several months, but his death was rather unexpected. He was a respected member of the Society of Friends ; a member of the old Board of Commissioners ; a Justice of the Peace for the Borough ; and actively interested in public affairs.'<ref>Essex Standard, 4 January 1878</ref>
