1991 Formed as a division of ICI in the Specialties and Materials sector. The division produced textile dyes, leather finishes, biocides, specialty inks, biodegradable plastics, resins, ingredients for pharmaceuticals and other high-added value products. Products under development included Quorn mycoprotein and Biopol biodegradable plastic[1].
1993 ICI decided to separate bioscience businesses from the rest of the group - pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, specialties, seeds and biological products were placed into a new and independent company called Zeneca Group.
