of City Road, Derby, dye makers.
1864 The company was founded by Charles Leech and Thomas Neal, originally manufacturing paints, but increasingly focussing on pigments.
1876 A factory was opened at Spondon, Derby , which made synthetic iron oxide pigments.
1889 The company was registered Leech Neal & Co Ltd on 31 October, to take over the colour works of the company of the same name, which had been carried in as a private concern. [1]
The company suffered declining profits in the Edwardian period, but revived its fortunes with a new process for making precipitated iron ore pigments.
1936 Acquired by ICI as part of its consolidation strategy for the UK dyestuffs industry.
Operations at Spondon until 1956, when the factory was closed.
