1988 'J. W. WASSALL the Leicester footwear retailer in which Hanson now has an 11 per cent stake has paid £11 million for two companies in the seating and veneer industries. Wassail is buying the businesses Evertaut and Toone from Harris and Sheldon a private mini-conglomerate headed by Mr James Miller who becomes chairman of Wassail. Mr James Miller is father of Mr Christopher Miller, Wassail’s chief executive and a former associate director of Hanson. Evertaut’s main activity is making office and commercial seating as well as manufacturing and installing shop display fittings Nottingham-based Toone makes plastic and wood veneer panels.
