1844 June. Mr. W. Tarrant of the Red Cow Inn announces an extension 'a Commodious Gallery at which parties may have an excellent view of the trains arriving at, and departing the station'[2]
1851 Resident was Ellen Gaylor (age 26 born Exeter), Innkeeper and widow. With her sister Mary Badcock.[3]
1853 To let that old established house, the Red Cow Inn. Apply to Mr. W. Tarrant, Drake's Cottage, Exminster.[4]
1865 Sold by auction for £1,010 by the executors of the late Mr. Tarrant. 'The premises comprise a frontage of 66 feet, with a depth of 96 feet, and they consist of a Bar, Bar Parlour, Dining-room, Tap-room, two Sitting-rooms, four Bed-rooms, and Kitchen, together with brewhouse, spacious well-lighted skittle alley and cellar.'[5][6]
