"Prof. J. H. Neal, WhEx (Member), formerly Professor ©f Mechanical Engineering at the University of Natal, died on 13th September at the age of 80. He was always deeply interested in education and training, and during the years 1914-22 he was Head of the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Dept of Natal Technical College. While in this position he equipped new laboratories, organised apprentice classes and a scheme for training ex-service men in engineering.

An old friend of the Institution, Professor Neal was our correspondent in Natal. His death has caused great sorrow to his many friends and colleagues, who in the past have benefited a great deal from his kind-hearted advice and good humour."
