For the first time in 1896 at the "Rapp" Gallery was held an exhibition dedicated to the automobile and the cars that took part in the 1895 Paris-Bourdeaux-Paris Race from June 1895 were shown.

Over in Paris the 1896 Salon du Cycle in the Grand Palais showed a tremendous expansion of the industry, for in Classe VI. L'Automobile, 42 firms showed motorcars and, partly inclusive, 12 motorcycles. A motorcab was shown by Gautier Wehrle et Cie. Grivel showed motor-bicycles. There were quite 100 cars in the building, and visitors were much struck by the number to be seen in the streets.
