Airbus is a division of Airbus SE that manufactures civil aircraft. It is based in Blagnac, France, a suburb of Toulouse, with production and manufacturing facilities mainly in France, Germany, Spain, China and the United Kingdom.
1970 Airbus Industrie began as a consortium of European aviation firms (Aerospatiale, which was a merger of SEREB, Sud Aviation and Nord Aviation, and Deutsche Airbus, a grouping of four firms) to compete with American companies such as Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, and Lockheed.[1]
1972 The first flight of the A300, the first twin-engine wide body aircraft, took place in Toulouse on 28 October 1972, a month ahead of schedule.
1974 First flight of the Tornado, a multi-role combat aircraft.
1987 Launch of the A320 aircraft family
1991 Roll-out of the long range A340
1992 Maiden flight of the A330

2014 EADS was renamed Airbus Group, which included Airbus and Airbus Defence and Space. Eurocopter became Airbus Helicopters, joining within others in the new Airbus Group.
2017 Airbus Group was renamed Airbus.
2019 The business and assets of Airbus Group Ltd was sold to Airbus Operations Ltd[2]
