95 Bothwell Street, Glasgow
The company evolved from a ship furnishing business in Greenock. It made a significant advance in 1887, when the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co awarded them the upholstery contract for four large mail and passenger steamers. Around 1909 the business relocated to the larger shipbuilding centre of Glasgow. By now, the list of customers was extensive and naval work was also undertaken. Branches were established in other major British shipbuilding areas.[1]
1913 Rowan and Boden Limited was incorporated as a private company, with capital of £15,000, to take over the business of ship furnishers, upholsterers, decorators, and dealers in ships' equipments carried on by Rowan & Boden at 15 West Regent Street, Glasgow.[2]
