1851 'Sedbergh Gas Works. We understand that this company are now fast progressing, having been, during the present week, provisionally registered by the Registrar of Joint-Stock Companies, and that next winter there is every probability the inhabitants will have the pleasure of seeing the town illuminated with gas.'[1]
1853 'SEDBERGH GAS AND COKE COMPANY. The half-yearly meeting of the shareholders of this Company, was held at their office, in Sedbergh, on Saturday the 15th instant. Thomas Fawcett, Esq., chairman of the directors, presided.'[2]
