Henry Aloysius Petre (1884- ) D.S.O., M.C. Early aviator.

1884 Born in Ingatestone, Essex.

Educ.: Mount St. Mary's College, Chesterfield.

R.A.C. Aviator's Certificate No. 128.

1909-10 Engaged in construction of Petre Monoplane

1911 took certificate at Brooklands and became an instructor

1912 designed Handley Page monoplane for military trials

1913 founded military school of flying for Australian Government

1915-16 served in Iraq. Subsequently commanded various Australian F.C., R.F.C. and R.A.F. squadrons in United Kingdom; served in Egypt, 1918-19; transferred to R.A.F., 1918; retired, 1919.

1931 Made British Gliding Record.
