It was based on the French system: the optic arrangement and its table, which weigh together 2 tons 11 cwt., are borne on a bath of mercury. The whole work, from the designs of W. T. Douglass, consulting lighthouse engineer to the Cape Government, was carried out by Chance Brothers and Co. of Birmingham.[1]
