Established either in 1867 (the date given in a later company prospectus) or 1870 by Siegmund Hildesheimer, in Manchester.

1887 S. Hildesheimer and Company Limited was formed, with capital of £100,000, to take over, carry on and further develop the existing business of that name.[1]
