"ARCHIBALD PARK NEWALL, who was well known in engineering circles, was the founder and chairman of Messrs. A. P. Newall and Company, Ltd., Glasgow, makers of heat-treated bolts and nuts, and had been head of the firm for forty-nine years.
He was born in Glasgow in 1880 and was educated privately, and at the Barony School, Glasgow. On the completion of an apprenticeship with the Acme Steel and Foundry Co, Glasgow, he established his business, which under his direction, and as the result of his researches in connection with alloys and special types of steel, rapidly expanded. To add to his experience he travelled extensively, visiting the larger bolt-making plants in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Mr. Newall had been a Member of the Institution since 1934, and was also a Justice of the Peace.
His death occurred at Perryston, Ayr, on 18th February 1950."
