- 1895 Graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Married Mary Dayton Hill.
- 1922 President of General Electric Company of U.S.A. (GE) until 1939, and again from 1942 until 1944. During this time Swope expanded GE's product offerings, reoriented GE toward consumer home appliances, and initiated the offering of consumer credit services.
- 1957 Died in New York City in 1957.
- 2005, Forbes Magazine ranked Swope as the 20th most influential businessman of all time[1].
