William Hudson and Co, maker of bone china, of the Alma Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent
1870 Partnership formed between Joseph H. Middleton and William Hudson at the Alma Works
c.1889 The partners separated; William Hudson continued at Alma Works
c.1892 Moved to the Sutherland Works, Longton. William Hudson and Co. manufactured good quality tea and tableware using the 'Sutherland China' trade name.
At some point, control of the business passed to his son-in-law George Edwin Barlow and Thomas George Barlow.
1941 the business of J. H. Middleton and Co (owned by the Barlow and Chapman families) was moved to the Sutherland Works under the wartime Concentration Scheme; the two businesses as Hudson and Middleton Ltd.
