1859 Company founded; Robert Bewick Longridge became chief engineer of the first company formed for insuring against boiler explosions (the Steam Boiler Insurance Company).
Initially focussed on boilers in Lancashire and Yorkshire; subsequently extended to the whole of the UK.
1865 Boiler Insurance and Steam Power Co incorporated to take over and extend the business of the company[1]. Company name altered from Steam Boiler Association Co to Boiler Insurance and Steam Power Co[2].
