1851 Living at Ellor Street, Regent Road, Manchester: James Slater (age 42 born Great Bolton), a Machinist. With his wife Alice Slater (age 39 born Rossendale Forest), a Milliner and Dress Maker. One servant.[1]
1862 Patent. '3073. To John Schofield Clegg, of Oldham, in the county of Lancaster, and James Slater, of the same place, Machinists, for the invention of "certain improvements in carding engines."'[2]
1864 Patent. '2515. To James Slater, of Salford, in the county of Lancaster, Chain Maker, for the invention of "improvements in toothed chains for working toothed or chain wheels."'[3]
1866 Patent. '2907. And Samuel Hand, of Hulme, and James Slater, of Salford, both in the county of Lancaster, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in railway signals."'[4]
