JOSEPH LEE THOMAS was born in London on 6th October 1829, being the fourth son of William Thomas, whose family claim descent from Sir Rhys ap Thomas, K.G., the renowned Welshman living in the reign of Henry VII. | |||

JOSEPH LEE THOMAS was born in London on 6th October 1829, being the fourth son of William Thomas, whose family claim descent from Sir Rhys ap Thomas, K.G., the renowned Welshman living in the reign of Henry VII.
He was educated at London University, and was articled to Mr. Thomas Hawksley, of Westminster.
In 1854 he was appointed manager and engineer of the Linares group of lead mines in Spain, and on terminating his engagement in 1861 he was associated with the mining industry in the Isle of Man, retiring from active work in 1871.
His death took place in London on 3rd September 1918, in his eighty-ninth year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1867.
