ROBERT COOPER was born on 21st June 1867.
He served an apprenticeship of six years in the engineering works and drawing office of Messrs. Harland and Wolff, Belfast, and during this period also studied at Queen's College, Belfast.
Subsequently for a short time he was a draughtsman in the works of Messrs. Workman, Clark and Co., Belfast, and acted in a similar capacity with Messrs. Ross and Walpole, North Wall Works, Dublin.
In December 1901 he went as chief draughtsman to Messrs. J. and E. Hall, Ltd., of Dartford, and some years later became London Manager for Messrs. Burmeister and Wain, Ltd., Copenhagen.
In 1912 when the latter firm closed their London office, Mr. Cooper started on his own account and acted as their London representative. His business interests latterly were connected with Scandinavia and South Africa.
His death took place at Christiania, from pneumonia, following an operation, on 30th March 1919, in his fifty-second year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1905.
