WILLIAM BARRIE was born at Dundee on 2nd June 1849.
After serving a six years' apprenticeship in the London and North Western Railway works at Wolverton and Crewe, he was for a year and a half at Messrs. Pontifex and Wood's works in London, and on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway at Bhusawal.
