Faced with the need to cut the grass around the factory, Charles Henry Pugh, owner of the company, invented the 12 inch Atco Standard mower, the world' first mass produced petrol-engine powered mower.
Pugh decided to focus the company on making Atco Mowers
The original machine was displayed at the British Lawnmower Museum on Merseyside.
