1921 The first refinery on the site was developed by the Atlantic Gulf and West Indies Petroleum Company.
Esso acquired Atlantic Gulf and West Indies Petroleum
1951 Esso opened a new refinery on the site.
Today the refinery processes 330,000 barrels of crude oil every day, providing 20 per cent of the UK's total refining capacity.
