WILLIAM ALEXANDER JACKSON served his apprenticeship with Messrs. J. and A. D. Grimmond, jute manufacturers, of Dundee, and then went to Serampore, India, as engineer in a jute mill.
Six years later he returned to take the position of foreman at the Dundee Corporation Electricity Department, where he was principally engaged in the applications of electrical power to the Dundee jute mills.
Later he became successively under-manager to Messrs. J. C. Duffus and Nephews of Dundee and works engineer with Messrs. Jamieson and Company of Hull.
After a short period in business by himself he joined Messrs. Douglas and Frazer of Arbroath, as erector of machinery, and died whilst in Cuba on business.
He became on Associate Member of the Institution in 1923, and a Member in 1925.
His death occurred on 31st March 1929, at the age of 44.
