ROBERT MACLAGAN, who died on 26th June 1930, was one of the oldest members of the Institution.
He became a Member in 1875, and attained the age of 88 years.
He was born at Scone, near Perth, on 22nd June 1842 and served an apprenticeship with Messrs. Hawthorn and Company of Leith.
In 1871 he was appointed engineer to the Imperial Mint of Japan at Osaka, and received the Order of "The Rising Sun" (4th class) in 1884. Five years later the Japanese took the Mint into their own hands, and Mr. Maclagan returned to England.
Having obtained interest in some land in British Central Africa (now Nyasaland) he went there in 1894 and remained four years, then returned to England and since that time had lived a country life.
