1932 Subsidiary company formed: Burry Tinplate Box Co Ltd, to make cardboard tinplate containers, at works in Llanelly.

1942 Company incorporated as W E Hughes and Co Ltd

1944 Subsidiary company formed: Steel Furnishings Ltd, to make office and works furniture, in London and subsequently moved to Ferrybridge in 1946.

1946 Public company; issue of shares; acquired the whole of the share capital of Pollard Bearings Ltd

1948 Acquired Philidas Ltd, makers of self-locking nuts

1949 Subsidiary Whitehouse Industries was supplying cases for the Biro Ball Pointed pen; Philidas production had been moved to Ferrybridge[1]

1951 The company was refinanced with the help of ICFC; the name of the group was changed to Ferrybridge Industries[2]
