1859 William Ormiston Callender (1827–1908), a commission merchant, and his wife, Jean, née Marshall, the daughter of a Greenock tanner and their family moved to Hammersmith, London.

1862 George was born in Scotland, one of ten children; brother of Thomas Octavius Callender[1]

1880 Apprenticed with the Compagnie Generale des Mines d'Asphalte; worked on road construction, erection of buildings and asphalt laying.

1889 Worked in New York with Callender Insulating Co

1892 Consulting engineer in Vancouver

1896 Established Messrs G. M. Callender and Co, in London; bitumen manufacturer and water-works engineers

1901 Civil engineer[2]

1903 Proposed for membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, of 25 Victoria St, London.
