WILLIAM ROBERT CHEETHAM TAYLOR was born at Chadderton, near Oldham, on 20th February 1868, where his early education was received.
He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Dronsfield Brothers and Messrs. Platt Brothers and Co., of Oldham, and during this period he attended evening classes at the Oldham Technical School, where he was successful in. obtaining the "Thomasson Exhibition," tenable at the Owens College, Manchester, during the three years 1890-3.
In 1890 he was appointed draughtsman at the works of Messrs. W. Bodden and Son, textile manufacturers, Oldham, which post he held until 1901, and during the years 1894 - 1902 he was lecturer in engineering subjects at the Oldham Technical Schools.
On resigning from Messrs. Bodden's he was appointed chief engineer of the testing department of the Vacuum Oil Co., Manchester, and held this post until 1908.
He next started in business in partnership under the title of the Falcon Oil Co., Manchester, and also acted as consulting engineer.
He had been in indifferent health for some time prior to his decease, which took place suddenly in Manchester, on 9th July 1911, at the age of forty-three.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1902.
