EDWARD DISNEY ALEXANDER was born on 27th July 1857, and was the son of the late Rev. Disney L. Alexander, Vicar of Ganton, Yorkshire.
In 1877 he commenced a pupilage at the works of Messrs. R. and W. Hawthorn, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, and on its completion in 1881 he entered the drawing office as a marine draughtsman, remaining there for a year.
From January to July 1883 he was a student at University College, London, and then entered the service of Messrs. Alfred Holt, of Liverpool, as a marine engineer.
In 1886 he returned to Messrs. Hawthorn's Works at Newcastle-on-Tyne for a short time as a marine draughtsman.
In 1890 he joined the engineering staff of the London County Council, and remained in that capacity until 1897, when he resigned and went to reside and practise as a consulting engineer and surveyor at Milton, near Northampton. He soon commenced to display an interest in local affairs, and was an active member of the Parish Council for some time.
Thought not of a strong constitution, he had no illness until a fortnight before his decease when consumption revealed itself. The disease rapidly developed, and his death took place on 30th March 1907, in his fiftieth year.
He was elected a Graduate of this Institution in 1881, and was transferred to full membership in 1886.
