HENRY CONRAD VANDEPOEL AHRBECKER was born in 1855.
He received his engineering education at King's College, London, and subsequently served an apprenticeship to the profession.
In 1875 he joined his father in business, and remained with him until 1879, when he went to sea as engineer.
In 1882 he proceeded to St. Petersburg for the purpose of carrying out some torpedo and aeronautical experiments for the Russian Government.
On his return he joined Messrs. Dansey and Robinson, of London, as assistant superintendent engineer, and was with them for some years.
He also acted as inspector of boilers and machines for Mr. James Pollock, of London, and as resident engineer for Messrs. Watkins and Co., of London.
In 1886 he went to New South Wales, and joined Mort's Dock and Engineering Co., Balmain, Sydney, as draughtsman. After a few months he became assistant draughtsman, and two years later was promoted to be assistant works manager, which position he held until his death.
For twenty-two years he also acted as Honorary Secretary and Editor of the Engineering Association of New South Wales.
His death took place in Sydney on 19th November 1910, at the age of fifty-five.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1891.
